Rev. Louis E. Bauman, 91, went to be with the Lord March 23, 2001.

Born in Sardis, Ohio, he lived most of his adult life in the Akron area. He was a graduate of Kent State University, Wheaton College, The University of Akron where he received his M.A., and did graduate studies at the University of Colorado. He was a counselor and History teacher at Kenmore High School and, in his later years, taught German at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. For 11 years he taught evening classes at the Akron Bible Institute, later known as Cornus Hill Bible College.

In 1943, Rev. Bauman was ordained in the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and retired after 50 years in the ministry. He pastored Everett Christian Church, now known as the Church in the Valley, First Christian Church of Hudson, where he was ordained, and Steels Corners Christian Church in Cuyahoga Falls. He was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma and the Kappa Delta Pi fraternities. He was associated with the Akron Y.M.C.A for over 50 years. He and his wife Ruth traveled extensively to the Holy Lands, Soviet Union, Central Europe, South America, Alaska, and the Caribbean Islands. They did witnessing and missionary work for seven consecutive winters in the Caribbean. They spent summer vacations in Switzerland in the vicinity of Bern from whence his grandparents came.

Preceded in death in 1996 by his wife of 55 years, Ruth, five sisters and brothers, he is survived by his daughter, Carol (Bruce) Gradwohl; son, David Bauman; grandchildren, Mark (Julie) and Timothy (Melissa) Gradwohl; great-grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, and Alexander Gradwohl, Zachary and Kyle Henderson; and sisters, Edna Mizer and Pearle Barrick.
