Charles J. Clay, 68, of Lakeport, a lifelong are resident, passed away July 10, 2001 at his home following a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born June 23, 1933 in Fargo, the only son of Forest and Alice Nolan Clay who preceded his death.

He was drafted by the U.S. Army following graduation from Yale High School in 1952. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local #324 for 33 years retiring in 1992. He loved riding his Harley motorcycle and was awarded honorary membership in Port Huron H.O.G #2335 in June.

Charlie is a past councilman and Mayor of Yale, a Yale businessman who owned Yale Tavern for three years until destroyed by fire in 1987, member of Moose Lodge #158 of Port Huron and Past Master of Brockway Masonic Lodge #316 F & A.M. He loved gardening, woodworking and played 'Santa' for 6 years at Birchwood Mall. He formerly attended Yale First Presbyterian Church and recently Lakeport Wesleyan Church.
His special daughter, Janet died January 7th.

A funeral ceremony in appreciation of his life, family and friends will be 11:00 A.M. Friday at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale with committal services in Elmwood Cemetery, Yale. Pastor Joe Braisted of Lakeport Wesleyan Church will officiate. A Masonic Lodge of Sorrow will be 7:30 P.M. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the "Wishes of His Family". Visiting hours are Wednesday 6-8 and Thursday 2-5 & 7-9:00 P.M.
