"Glenn Franks, 22, of 212 North Third, was killed in front of Ed's Café at 595 North Second by the owner of a nearby café following an argument and fight at 1:30 a.m."
"Lt. J G Ferguson and Detective S T McCachren of the homicide division said Franks, an unemployed iron worker, was shot by Milton Gilmore, 42, of 124 East Holmes Road, owner of the North Star Grill at 678 North Second. Gilmore surrendered at Central Police Headquarters at 4:30 a.m. after he learned that Franks was dead."
"Officers were holding Gilmore, his wife, Mrs. Adaline Gilmore, 38; Robert L De Graffenried, 22, of 88 North Stonewall; Willie Studdard, 50, of 634 North Manassas, operator of Ed's Café; Joyce Irene Walker, 32 of 1714 Weiner Road; Cora Virginia Smith, 43 of 701 Leath, a waitress at the café; and Al Richardson, Jr., 32, of 634 Bethel, for investigation.
"No charges have been filed against Gilmore."
"Officers said witnesses told them Gilmore shot Franks with a small-caliber revolver during an argument after Franks grabbed Mrs. Gilmore around the waist. Mr. De Graffenried told officers the victim hit at him and then tried to fight with Gilmore."
