Kirsty MacColl
Birth: Oct. 10, 1959
London Borough of Croydon
Greater London, England
Death: Dec. 18, 2000
Cozumel Municipality
Quintana Roo, Mexico

Singer. She was the daughter of folk singer Ewan MacColl. She was a noted British singer and songwriter and had successes with "There's A Guy Works Down The Chips Shop Swears He's Elvis," Billy Bragg's "A New England" and "Fairy tale in New York" with the Pogues. She also recorded backing vocals with bands such as The Smiths. In 2000, she released "Tropical Brainstorm," an album heavily influenced by Cuban music, a love of hers in recent years, and the best album of her career. Kirsty died in Cozumel, Mexico while on holiday with her two sons. She was hit by a speedboat that illegally entered the area reserved for swimmers.
