Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 13 Mar 1936
"Harry Van Hyning, 67, died Thursday evening at his home in Akron, death resulting from an ailment that had afflicted him for several years. However, he was able to be about his home Sunday as usual and his sudden passing shocked many friends. Deceased was born in Canfield, Sept. 2, 1868, a son of attorney Giles and Hannah Newton VanHyning. His early life was spent here, always manifesting deep interest in the great outdoors. Like his father and grandfather VanHyning, the latter president of the Canfield bank that bore his name, being expert in the handling of firearms, and he was never happier than when roaming wood and field in search of game. When a young man he located in Cleveland and there 43 years ago married Miss Eleanor H. Morgan. Twenty-five years ago he retired from office work and removed to Akron where he purchased a tract of land and engaged extensively and successfully in truck-gardening until his holdings became too valuable for that purpose. Since disposing of same he had been retired. He never lost interest in his native village which he frequently visited to be among old friends. He was a grandson of the late Judge Eben Newton, in his day Canfield's first citizen. Besides his wife he leaves one sister, Mrs. Harriet Smith, of Pittsburgh and cousins, Fred Brown of Youngstown, Miss Thalia Brown, New York; Mrs. Effie McCracken, Los Angeles; Mrs. Harriet Duboise, Rosina, N. Y., Morris Brown, Boston. Funeral services were held at the Akron home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. B. Z. Stambaugh, pastor of the Church of Our Savior. The remains were brought to Canfield and laid to rest in the village cemetery family lot."
