John L. Mackenzie, 64, of Glasgow passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at the Billings Clinic in Billings.
Mr. Mackenzie was born in Miles City on Dec. 19, 1945, the son of Royal and Bernice Mackenzie. He was raised on a ranch outside of Miles City and at a young age, he joined the Navy where he was active for four years and in the reserve for two years.
He married Kathleen Lovatt in 1970. Mr. Mackenzie began working for the Milwaukee Railroad as a car man and brakeman conductor. When he left the Milwaukee Railroad he went to work for the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad and was an engineer when he retired in 1999 due to health issues.
Mr. Mackenzie was an avid reader, he loved spending time gardening and flying his model airplanes.
His survivors include his wife, Kathleen of 40 years; one son, Brett Mackenzie of Glasgow; one daughter, Shannon (Jeff) Bondy of Belgrade; sisters, Margaret (Don) Hafla of Cohagen, Sally (Larry) Phalen of Glendive and Mary Jean (Fred) Willard of Miles City; a brother, Lloyd (Sarah) Mackenzie of Billings; two grandchildren, Rhiannon Mackenzie and Payton Bondy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Pat Mackenzie.
A graveside service was on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Riverview Cemetery in Circle.
Family and friends will meet at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Circle at 12:30 p.m. and proceed to the cemetery at 1 p.m.
