He was Captain of 1895 Football Team --
Active in City Matters

William Henry Harrison Piatt, 91, Kansas City lawyer and famed University of Kansas football player, died last night at a rest home at 3522 Walnut street where he had been living for two years.
He played football five years at K.U. between 1891 and 1895 and was captain of the 1895 team. He later became an authority on duck hunting and training of Irish setters.
In Law Until 1955.
After graduation from law school, Mr. Piatt set up practice in Kansas City and later formed the firm of Piatt & Marks. He closed his law office in 1950 at the age of 82 but continued to handle cases for friends until 1955.
He was a member of the American Bar association committees on uniformity of state laws, uniformity of highway laws and commerce and trade, and was chairman of the latter.
In 1929 he led a fight in Missouri to rid the state of "jackrabbit" courts that served primarily as collection agencies. He was a member of the commission that drafted a state social security law to take advantage of federal funds in 1936.
Predicted Freeway Need.
In Kansas City he fought successfully to rid McGee street of street car tracks, and predicted the need for a major artery to Southeast Kansas City because of the increasing traffic.
An article dated February 26, 1900, tells of his throwing a blacksmith out of his office in an argument.
Mr. Piatt was active in the organization of the Kiwanis club here and was active in the Elk and Masonic lodges. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi social fraternity and attended every alumni reunion until four years ago.
His wife, who died in 1946, was the daughter of Sen. Stephen B. Elkins [error, she was his niece].
Services will be at 2:30 o'clock Saturday at the Newcomer chapel at Brush Creek and the Paseo. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
