Humphrey Bunch (Julia’s second husband) was killed by Jesse Glover at age 43. Julia Bunch had many experience and hard times during her young married life. She was left a widow twice, and was left with four sons to raise, the youngest only 5 years old at the time of his father’s death. She had a hired girl, Laura Sperry Collier (who is still living in 1964 and past 100 years old). She helped with all the work. They took the clothes to the creek to wash. The hired girl received $1.25 a week for her work. She shopped at Plymouth, a little country store. She and her grand daughter Mary Bunch bought dress material for 3 cents a yard. She rode side saddle up the hollow and picked wild plums, mashed, and dried them for winter use.
