Grant Mullins farmed most of his life in East Tennessee, but also worked for a time as a railroad laborer in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Likely though, Grant would have said his most significant work was as a Baptist preacher.
Interestingly, Grant and his brother, Sherman, were named after two Union generals out of their father's respect for the North. Two other siblings, Clint and Laura, were also born from their mother's relationship with Rolley Mayes, a former Union soldier. Rittie gave them her dead husband's last name.
Addie Chandler married Grant in 1899. They had eight children: Laura Rachel (1898-1978), John Tinley (1901-?), Lester (1905-1988), Ida Mae (1905-1998), William (1911-1998), Vaulty (1913-?), Vacie (1915-?), and Naomi (1919-?).
