After departing Clovis Army Airfield in
New Mexico on a training flight, for a mock
bombing target to Fort Worth, his aircraft
collided in mid-air with Alamogordo,
New Mexico-based B-29-40-MO #44-86276 in
the skies over Weatherford, Texas.
Many crewmembers of both aircraft bailed out
but were killed by burning wreckage. Only two
survived, and sixteen perished.
Son of P.F. Knight and Martha Foard.
The aircrew killed were:
1st Lt. Robert A Mayer
2nd Lt. Robert L Knight
2nd Lt. John W Burtis
Flt. Off. Robert Q Zaleska
S/Sgt. Clifford D Longmire
