Ray Daniel Griggs, 70, died Monday, March 23, 2009 at the home of his beloved fiance, Janet Stovall.
He was born March 12, 1939 in Macon, GA, son of Thelma Batton Griggs and Joseph Hilliard Griggs, Sr.
Ray graduated from Lanier High School in Macon and continued his education at Southern Polytechnic State University, graduating with an Associate Degree in Engineering. He worked for Georgia Department of Transportation for forty-two years. He was an expert on concrete and suspension bridges. Examples are the Talmadge Memorial Bridge in Savannah and the Sydney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick. Upon his retirement, he lived at his beloved country home at Unionville, near Barnesville, GA. Ray also owned property at Burnside Island and held the position of Secretary of the Yacht Club.
Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street, with his burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Dan Darden will officiate.
The family will meet friends from 10 A.M., to service time on Thursday at the funeral home. They suggest that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, Suite 140-A, 3312 Northside Drive, Macon 31210.
Survivors are his fiance, Janet Stovall and his beloved friend, Virginia Renfroe; brother, Joseph Hilliard Griggs, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen; sister, Mary Griggs Williamson and husband, Carey Williamson; nephew, Joseph Michael Griggs; niece, Cynthia Griggs Gore; nephew, Carey Williamson and nieces, Cathy Williamson and Mary Louise Williamson.
