Mayor Males started his political career during Mayor Benjamin Bosse's time as a member of the Safety Board. He had previously been a salesman for the Neitert Produce Company, where he had worked from 1890, at the age of fourteen years, until 1919 when he became manager of the local Chero Cola (now Nehi) Bottling Works. He resigned from the Safety Board in 1918 to run for Sheriff of Vanderburgh County on the Republican ticket. He was elected and served from 1919 until 1923. He was for many years Republican County Chairman.
Mayor Males was born in Evansville July 19, 1875, the son of Thornton and Emma Males. He attended the Public Schools and Lockyear's Business College. He was engaged in business under the name of Males Insurance Agency, located at 19 S.E. Third Street.
He is a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine. He is a member of the First Evangelical Church.
He and his wife, Anna, have one son, John C. Males.
