With regards to Miller/Millar spelling it has been spelled both ways. A Great Uncle, Jack German, had researched (1930's) The German Family back to the days of the United Empire Loyalists. They were families who had fled America during/after the American Revolution and who had remained loyal to Britain.
Christopher "Christophe" German was a Loyalist and his daughter Maria/ Mariah (1810-1897) married Harvey Millar (1808-1898) in Napanee, Ontario in 1832. They had 3 boys and 3 girls- Jane Letitia Millar (1851-1930) was their youngest child. She married Stephen Willard Scott.
In 1863, Harvey and Mariah moved to Grass Lake, Michigan. They raised the family in Michigan so that places the children back in the U.S. The family's name has been recorded as both Millar and Miller. I use the Millar spelling because that's what our family has documented.
