O.K. Baker, 91, dies; retired job printer for Daily Democrat
Owen K. Baker, 91, formerly of 213 Rugg St. and veteran retired job printer for Decatur Daily Democrat, died at 1:50 a.m. Thursday in the Allen County Health Center where he had been a resident for the past several years.
A native of Warsaw, Indiana, he was born Dec. 28, 1881, the son of Samuel and Anna Comstock Baker. His wife, Blanch O. Kelly, preceded him in death July 11, 1967. When he retired from printing he worked briefly as a salesman, then came Feb. 17, 1940, with the Decatur Daily Democrat for some 24 years..
Mr. Baker was an associate member of the First Presbyterian Church of Decatur, and was active in several printing craftsman clubs of Indiana.
Surviving are one son, Robert O. Baker of Fort Wayne; four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Eldon) Vegeler, Mrs. Oren (Elenore) Simpson and Mrs. Paul (Anna) Goldsmith, all of Ft. Wayne, and Mrs. Bryant (Marguerite) Figerold of Oakland, California; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Two sons, Maxwell K. and Wilbur P. Baker, six brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Trinity Episcopal Church, Fort Wayne, with Rev. Corydon Randall as celebrant of the Requiem Mass. Burial will be in Lindenwood cemetery.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. Friday at the Gillig-Doan & Sefton funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the building fund of the Trinity Episcopal Church.
