Samuel Earle

U.S. Congressman. Born in Frederick County, Virginia, he moved to South Carolina in 1774, participated in the American Revolutionary War as a Navy Ensign in 1777 and leaving as Captain of a company of rangers in 1782. He was a member of the South Carolina State House of Representatives, (1784-88), delegate to the South Carolina State convention that ratified the Federal Constitution, in 1788 and delegate to the South Carolina State constitutional convention in 1790. In 1795, he was elected as a Republican to the Fourth Congress, serving until 1797. He died at age 72 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
