She was the daughter of Mattie Fisher and James D. Robinson and grew up in Friars Point, Mississippi, in the old Robinson home, Riverview. She married Simon Lester Dodson (Pete) in her early twenties and had two children, Jack Robinson Dodson and Lucile Dodson. Pete died when he was only 38 years old, and she never remarried. She was a happy, Christian woman and lived a good life. She died at the age of 88.
