Vincent was born in Jersey City in 1921, and lived there until he joined the Army.He went to Snyder High School and worked as a tug Boat assistant until 1942. Vincent played semi Pro baseball for Mallincrodt Chemical Works in the early 1940's.
He joined the Army in 1942, and was assigned to the 630th Tank Battalion. During a point check on December 16, 1944, Mr. Burke, a radio operator riding in a back of a jeep was blown out into a snowbank, in the Ardennes Forest during the Battle of the Bulge. The other two men in the jeep were killed. Mr. Burke suffered serious injuries to his right shoulder and leg. After a long recovery, he was discharge in the end of 1945 and returned to Jersey City. For his heroic service he was awarded the Purple Heart and numerous campaign medals.
After recovery, Vincent continued to court Mary Kilduff and on June 29th 1946, they were married at St. Mary's RC Church in Bayonne. After working in the post office, Vincent gained employment at The Bayonne Naval Base in 1950, later the Military Ocean Terminal, and worked there until his retirement on July 01, 1983. After retirement, he worked as a Bartender at Campbell's Tavern in Bayonne,until 1992. He lived in Bayonne from 1946 to 1962,when he and his wife Mary moved to Staten Island with their three children, Kevin, Timothy and Shawn
He coached Little league Baseball and basketball in the PAL in Bayonne. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #371 at St Mary's RC Church,Bayonne.
Vincent was predeceased by his parents William and Alice Burke, sister Alice,and brothers, Frank, James and William. Surving are his wife of 60 years,Mary Kilduff, his son Kevin, his son Timothy and his daughter Shawn. His brother John, and nine grandchildren, Matthew, Erin, Patrick, Kevin and Meghan Burke, Timothy, Brett and Brittany Burke and Daniel Gallagher, and great-grand daughter Shea Elizabeth Burke, also survive him.. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed forever.
