Birth: Sep. 26, 1831
Hamilton County
Ohio, USA
Death: May 15, 1909
El Dorado County
California, USA

John and his father Jacob came to California in 1852. They are listed among the Tuolumne County Pioneers who crossed the Sonora Pass via the Walker River Trail. They engaged in mining in what was then Sonora County from 1852 to 1856. In 1856 he went to Diamond Springs and did well in mining there. After the war he settled in El Dorado until moving back to Diamond Springs in 1900. In addition to his widow he was survived by son Edwin and daughter Alice. Although his grave marker indicates he served in the 7th California Cavalry during the Civil War all other records indicate that he served in Co. G, 7th California Infantry.
