Dorsey Cullen Beamer Jr., 83, of Galax, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was born Dec. 5, 1928, to the late Martha and Dorsey Beamer Sr. in Mount Airy, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Beamer, Mary Nell Wynne and Ann Adams; and one brother, Maynard Beamer.
Dorsey was born and raised in Mount Airy, N.C. In 1957 he moved to Galax where he began to raise his family and became co-owner/operator of Twin County Laundry, Inc. He was an avid fan of many sports. Beamer loved and cherished his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Beamer of the home; four children, Ellen Beamer of Atlanta, Ga., Teresa Beamer Williams and husband, Alan of Sahuarita, Ariz., David Beamer of Galax and Larry Beamer and wife, Marcella of Galax; two brothers, Richard Arlen and wife, Libba of Durham, N.C., and Robert Ross Beamer and wife, Janice of Walnut Cove, N.C.; four grandchildren, Kyra Nicole Williams, Afton Paige Beamer, Gunnar Jaret Beamer and Jessica Davila; numerous nieces, nephews; and many other family members also survive.
A memorial service was held Friday, March 2, 2012, at Twin County Funerals Sanctuary beginning at 2 p.m. The Rev. Richard Wynne officiated.
