George Lawrence Cosby, 88, of Phenix City, Alabama, died Tuesday February 8, 2011 in Columbus, Georgia.
Graveside funeral services with military honors will be 1:00pm EST Friday February 11th at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City with the Reverend Judd Stinson officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City, AL. 36867.
Mr. Cosby was born April 16, 1922 in Douglas County, Georgia, son of the late John W. Cosby and Lizzie Mae Ward Cosby. He was a master mason and past Worshipful Master of the Muscogee Masonic Lodge and worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Cosby was also a member of the Scottish Rite in Columbus and Summerville United Methodist Church in Phenix City .
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a former regional manager of J.J. Newberry and district manager of McCrory's department stores.
Other than his parents, Mr. Cosby is preceded by his sister, Madeline Palmer and brother, Milton Cosby. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Mildred Elaine Cosby of Phenix City, daughters, Sylvia Faye Scroggins of Smiths Station, AL. and Myrna Joy Sapp of Columbus, GA., 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
