Birth: Jan. 16, 1856
Carroll County
Indiana, USA
Death: Aug. 22, 1952
Miami-Dade County
Florida, USA

There is no dispute that Belle Linson Sims' birthday was January 16th, but there is an issue with regard to whether her correct year of birth was 1855 or 1856. Both the obituary (right) and the death certificate (for which a grandson was the informant) say she was born in 1855, and the latter states her age at death as 97, which is consistent with the 1855 year of birth. However, records during her life consistently indicate a year of birth of 1856, as does her tombstone. Although she and her parents (John & Sarah Linson) have not been found in the 1860 and 1870 censuses, she was listed as age 24 in 1880 census, as age 44 in 1900 census (which specifically says she was born Jan 1856), as age 54 in 1910 census, and as age 64 in 1920 census, so the 1856 year of birth has to be the correct one. Therefore, she was actually 96 when she died.

Obituary from The Kokomo Tribune. (As explained above, she was born in 1856, not 1855, and she was 96 when she died, not 97.)
