Albert J. Briggs Killed By Car
New Breman Man Dies Soon After Being Struck On Road

Albert J. Briggs, 77, a lifelong resident of New Bremen, died Saturday night shortly after being struck by a car driven by Walter Heinz, Amsterdam, who said he was blinded by headlights of an approaching vehicle.

Briggs was walking toward his home, opposite the Bardo Hotel on the New Bremen-Croghan road, when the accident occurred. Headlights of a car driven by A S. Baldwin, Clinton, prevented Heinz from seeing the pedestrian, he told State Police, Dwight N. Dudo, district attorney,.and Dr. L. M. Campbell, coroner.

Briggs was dead when the ambulance reached the Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville.

Riding with Heinz were Mrs. Charles Donovan and daughter, Mary, Amsterdam, who were on their way to Belfort to visit Mrs. Donovan's brother.

Albert Briggs was born in the Town of New Bremen, son of Stephen and Catherine Darring Briggs, and always lived there. He married twice. His first wife, Julia Bigness, died In 1901. He married Sarah Bardo, July 15, 1904. She survives with a son. Bertram Briggs, Boonville, and a daughter, Mrs. Emerson Yoder, Beaver Falls He also leaves four children by his first wife, Sherman Briggs, Boonville; Mrs. Laura Sweeney. Mrs. Nettie ConIon and Mrs. Minot Lagary, Watertown; and 23 grandchildren.
