LEWIS BLACK, 73, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday night, June 2, 2009 at his home.
Born May 18, 1936 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of George E. and Verda (Branom) Black. He was raised and received his education in Winfield.

In November of 1958, Lewis was united in marriage to Treva Prier. The couple raised their three children in Winfield. The couple later divorced.

Lewis began working for the Gott Manufacturing Company in 1954 and retired in 1988. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, and enjoyed playing golf, fishing, camping, and especially playing the guitar. As a younger man, he was involved in two bands and recorded an album with each.

His family includes: His companion: Verla Robinson of Winfield; His sons: Steven Black of Arkansas City, KS; Kenneth Black of Oxford, KS; His daughter: Evelyn Price and husband, Rick of Winfield; His sister: Dixie Stark of Ponca City, OK; His 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by his sisters Helen Brandom and Betty Shearer and an infant sister.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Evangelical Free Church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday, June 4 from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established in Mr. Black's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
