Oscar Hougland, 98, widower of Betty Hougland, died at his home on Tuesday, December 30, 2008. A native of Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late Oscar Hougland and Bessie Stier Hougland Durrett. He was raised in Louisville and graduated from Louisville Male High School, where he was a four year member of the track team. He and his Family came to Winchester in July, 1944, and established the local Leggett & Platt, Inc., plant, which he managed until 1979. He retired but immediately returned to work as an assistant manager, retiring a second time in 1993, with 72 years of service. He was survived by his son and daughter-in-law Charles A. and Lucinda C. Hougland, two grandchildren, Charles A. (Ligia) Hougland, Jr., of Fairfax, VA and Mary H. (William) Padgett, of Vienna, VA; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas M. Hougland, Juliana R. Hougland, William C. Padgett, Andrew D. Padgett and Christian B. Padgett, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Scobee Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Scobee Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Friday, January 2, 2009. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice East or Clark County Humane Society.
