Emanuel Basore was a carpenter in Hedgesville, VA. He enlisted in the Confederate Army on April 19, 1861 when the call came from Virginia for volunteers. He was mustered into the 2nd Virginia Infantry, Company E, on May 11th in Harpers Ferry. This unit later became part of the famous
Stonewall Brigade.

Emanuel left the service on July 18, 1863 and headed to Clear Springs, Maryland where he married his sweetheart Mary Ann Ray. Over the years Emanuel and his family made their way across the country to Pasadena, CA. He passed away on September 5, 1907, and was buried in an grave in the Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena. A marker was placed on the gravesite in 2004.
