They had five sons: John Miller (1846-1879), Henry Dubose (1849-1884), William Charles (1851-1941), Josiah McKewn (1852-1930), and Marion Deveaux (1856-1864). The four oldest sons were born in Alabama with the last name Skinner. The family name was changed from Skinner to Harrell in Alabama in 1856. The family moved back to South Carolina where Marion was born.
Dr. Harrell died in 1858 in South Carolina. Jane and family returned to Alabama where her sister Louisa Elizabeth Harrell Lide resided. Her two oldest sons served in the Confederate Army. Her son William Charles remained in Alabama and became a merchant. Her son Josiah McKewn moved to Texas and became a lawyer.
