LTC (Ret.) William E. Bowers of Madison, Alabama graduated from Schaumburgh High School in 1975 where he was a member of the school's football and wrestling teams. He was also a graduate of West Point Military Acadamy, Class of 1979, earning a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Col. Bowers was a Vice President of SEI Group, Inc., working on rebuilding power distribution and generation systems in Iraq for the US. He left for Iraq on August 22, 2004, and was to return at the end of this month. Bowers and his project team were in Iraq to work on power distribution and generation systems on U.S. military installations. SEI Group has eight to 10 employees in the Baghdad area at any one time as part of several contracts the company has with the U.S. government. The retired Army Lieutenant Colonel joined SEI Group in 2001 as a program manager and had worked on projects in Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan and Iraq. He was killed by gun fire when his vehicle was ambushed by insurgents in Baghdad, Iraq at age 46. He was buried on what would have been his 47th birthday.
