COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Mary Josephine (Mary Jo) Denney, 73, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 19; and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Friday, Sept. 20, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Denney died on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at her home.
She was born on May 27, 1929, in Branston, Ky., to the late James Lewis and Leila Mercer Daffron.
Mrs. Denney was a retired special education teacher assistant with the Putnam County School System. She was a member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church and attended Cumberland First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Denney was an avid golfer and bridge player. She was a member of the DAR (Daughters of American Revolution).
Her family includes four daughters and two sonsinlaw, Janet Rogers, Machelle and Jim Cobb, Mary Jean and John Owen, and Kimberly Young, all of Cookeville; a son and daughterinlaw,
Ken and Doreia Denny of Cookeville; a brother, Lewis (Sonny) Daffron of Monticello, Ky.; and 14 grandchildren, Justin Richardson, Mary Mac Rogers, Liera Bandy, Donnie Ledbetter, Dane, Denney and Joshua Owen, Garrett and Jade Young, Macey, Taylor and Luke Denney, Jason and Courtney Cobb.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Eugene Denney; and a sister, Peggy Gibson.
