Mr. Cyrus "Cy" Lee Brooks Sr., 80, resident of High Point, died Jan. 1, 2014, at Westchester Manor.

Mr. Brooks was born Jan. 19, 1933, in Union County, a son to the late Judge Ellis and Henrietta Griffin Brooks.

He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He later served in the U.S. Air Force. A resident of High Point most of his life, he was a former city manager and had also served on the city council. He was very active in the High Point Rotary Club, having 63 years of membership, and until his health failed, 48 years of perfect attendance. He received an honorary doctorate degree from John Wesley College, now Laurel University, where he served on the board of directors.

On June 6, 1953, he married the former Sue Cumby, who preceded him in death on May 24, 2012.

In addition to his wife and parents, he also was preceded by his infant daughter, Ronnah.

Surviving are his son, Cyrus "Cy" L. Brooks Jr. and wife Joni of High Point; a sister, Margaret Brooks Powers and husband Arnold of Clemmons; a grandson, Zachary Brooks and wife Adeline of Chapel Hill; brother-in-law, James Cumby and wife Phyllis of High Point; five nephews, Greg Powers, James Powers, Keith Powers, Andrew Cumby and Michael Cumby; and one niece, Mary Jo Powers.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in High Point with the Rev. David M. Emery officiating. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the High Point Rotary Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, 405 N. Main St., High Point, NC 27260.
