GREENSBORO - James L. "Lindy" Chester, 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Beacon Place in Greensboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday; 3:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Fr. Fidel Melo officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
James was born in Davidson County on Oct. 23, 1927, the son of Julius L. and Nora Teash Chester. He served his country in the US Navy. James worked until his retirement with Southern Bell. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and always enjoyed being outdoors. He loved his farm, animals, fishing and his tractor. His family was his love in life and he always loved the time he could spend with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all.
James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan S. Chester in 1972. Those surviving are his children; Edwinna Musheno and husband Dennis of Marietta, GA, James B. Chester and wife Karen of Thomasville, Carolyn Stuckey and husband Cyrus of Greensboro, Suzanne Ratcliffe and Bill Sinclair of Jamestown, John Chester and Teresa of Greensboro and Donna Lewis and husband Ed of Greensboro; sister; Shelby Brock and husband Tom of Lexington; grandchildren; Christina Stuckey, Matthew S. Musheno, Jason P. Musheno, Capt. Mark T. Musheno (USAF), Brian E. Musheno, Holly Chester, Brittany Dotson, Ken Ratcliffe, Crystal Ratcliffe, Nate Lewis; great grandchildren; Erin, Kate, Emma, Ethan, Abigail, and Mason.
The family wants to express their appreciation to Hospice of Greensboro for the care and concern shown their father during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
