Surviving many of his comrades in the Civil War, Anthony Daumont died Tuesday, after a brief illness of pneumonia, at his home, 262 Clerk Street. He was 68 years old and a member of Company C, Twenty-first Regiment, New Jersey Volunteers. Once, in the Civil War, he had a narrow escape from death while carrying his colonel, Col. Van Houten, off the field of battle at Richmond, Va. He also endured the hardships of Libby Prison. For 23 years he was employed by the Central Railroad of New Jersey in its freight department. His funeral takes place today at the convenience of his family.
