A Tribute Well Deserved.

Our readers have been told that Dr. J. H. Crawford died suddenly at Byron on Saturday, April 30th, directly after addressing the Associated Epworth League Union. Of that sad event, and the noble man, the Byron correspondent of the Fort Valley Leader says: "The last thing on the program was an address on "Opportunities," by Dr. J. H. Crawford. All who knew him knew what to expect, and were not disappointed. Such a grand, noble, inspiring speech we never heard. Eloquent and earnest, he held the audience spell-bound. Who that heard those burning words of truth will ever forget them? How much good they may do, eternity will tell. Just at the close, just as the climax was reached, and with these words just uttered, "It is better to make a child smile than to build a monument to a dead king," he said, "Please excuse me, I'm about to faint." Dropping on his knees at the chancel, he was caught by his friends, and in a moment, without a pain, his soul was with God. Can a more glorious death be imagined? But, alas! as physician, as steward of the church, as Sunday school superintendent, as the loving friend of old and young, rich and poor, as father, as husband, how much he will be missed. Not only was he loved in Byron, but the whole surrounding country honored and respected him, and with us mourn his loss. An honest man's the noblest work of God; such was Dr. Crawford. He made no compromise with evil, but was true to his convictions, true to his conscience, true to his God. He fought the good fight, he finished his course, he kept the faith, and we know the crown of righteousness is now his."
