Martin E. Brandenburg was the eldest son of Moses Peter Brandenburgh and Mary "Polly" Haskew Brandenburgh. He was born, lived his entire life, and died in rural Clarke County, Alabama. He served in the 38th Alabama Infantry Voluteers during the Civil War. He married Lucy Ann Paul on May 31, 1866 and fathered thirteen children.
