Spouse: Mary “Polly” Edwards (1800-1874), married January 1st, 1818, at Wayne County, Indiana

Father: Job Combs, Jr. (1770-1850)

Mother: Abigail Coons (1782-1803)

Occupation: minister/preacher for churches of Christ.

From The Daily State Journal, Lincoln, Nebraska March 8, 1872, excerpted by Linda Berney:

Elder Combs died at 7:30 p.m. on the 4th inst. His funeral sermon was preached in the Christian Church, Wednesday the 6th, at 11 a.m., by Elder D. R. Dungan. We subjoin a brief outline of the sermon.......

Brother Combs has been in the service of Christ for more than fifty years; has preached the gospel for half a century......

Bro. Combs was 72 years old the 17th day of February last, and has been preaching the gospel of Christ for 50 years......

He was the first man that I remember of hearing preach. From that time to the present I have known him to be a strong and safe advocate of the faith once delivered to the saints......

To tell of his labors and toils and sacrifices. I should want a volume of respectable size. He has for nearly 30 years, studied the prophecies steadily and with delight. He had become wise in the prophetic promises of God's word. He has lately written a book on this department of the Scripture, which I hope will not fail to appear in print.....

To our aged sister, who now mourns the loss of her dear husband, by whose side she has trodden the rough paths of life for more than half a century, we scarcely need say, "the day is not far distant when the Lord will call you away from these scenes of toil and suffering. Your toils may soon end in that place of rest reserved for the saints."
