Douglas Kay Parsons, 82, left this life due to natural causes July 28, 2014 in his home.

Dad was born on April 6, 1932 in Ogden, Utah to Leon Kay Parsons and Norma Leone Harbertson. He attended Ogden High School and continued his education at the University of Utah graduating as a Pharmacist.

He married his dearly loved companion of 58 years, Carol Layman, in the Salt Lake Temple on December 2, 1955. Together they raised a family of 6 daughters: Diane Maylin (Joseph), Debra Wood (Jim), Kathryn Marshall (Kevin), Karen Olney (Bruce), Jeanne Casey (Donald), and Julie Kay John (Justin). Dad worked very hard to provide, protect and keep harmony in our home. Dad's greatest desire, which he often expressed, is to have each family member together forever with him in the next life. Included in his family are 36 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. He has one sister, Pat Oakey of St. George, Utah and is preceded in death by his parents.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he gave dedicated service in whatever he was called to do. Following his retirement, he fulfilled his desire to serve a full-time mission with Mom, sharing the gospel for 2 years in Toronto, Canada.

A special thanks to Kristy and Rachael, of A Step Forward Hospice, for coming into the home giving much appreciated care and support.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute memorial donations to the LDS Church Missionary Fund or Humanitarian Aid.

Funeral Services will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Rock Cliff 2nd Ward, 1000 Suncrest Dr.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 30th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. and on Thursday, prior to the service at the church, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
