Birth: Sep. 8, 1861
New York County (Manhattan)
New York, USA
Death: Jan. 29, 1935
Bronx County

Born in the Bronx, raised in the town of Morrisania. Bricklayer, mason, builder, contractor. Veteran of the Spanish-American War: Company D, 8th New York Infantry, enlisted 2 May 1898 at New York, New York and discharged 3 November 1898 at New York city, rank: First Lieutenant. He had been a member of the same unit, 8th New York State Militia (National Guard) for eight years prior to service in the War with Spain. When he returned home he was made a Captain by his unit (in 1900).

Husband of Ellen Wolfrath Ehmann (married 10 June 1888 at 796 Courtlandt Avenue, New York, NY by Rev. W. Scott). They had two children, Loretta Elsie and Herbert Christian Ehmann. Lived at 2128 Valentine Avenue in the Bronx beginning in 1901. Oscar may have built the duplex himself, since that was the year it was built.

Oscar died age 73 years, although his death certificate, with an unknown informant, said 70. Cause of death was a coronary occlusion, with hypertension contributing.

Death notice in The Bronx Home News, February 1, 1935, page 3:

Buried 1 or 2 February 1935 Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx; shares Grave 1 with his father, Christian Ehmann. No marker.
