James F. Hawker, 81, of 2912 Beverly Lane, died in Home Hospital, Lafayette Ind. at 3:46 p.m. Tuesday, January 13.
Mr. Hawker taught at Jefferson High School from 1957 to 1980 in the speech department. He directed productions for the Civic Theater and the Chancel Players, both in Lafayette.
Born in Marshall on November 19, 1916, he graduated from Marshall High School and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He. had lived in Lafayette since 1954.
He married Mildred Louise Jerry on June 30,1946, in Brazil, Ind. She survives.
Mr.. Hawker was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Odd Fellows Lodge and was named a Sagamore of the Wabash. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 11.
He was a member of the Wall of Fame at Jefferson High School and the National and State Speech Coaches Hall of Fame. He was very active in the National Forensic League and the Indiana Forensic Association.
Surviving with his wife is a son, Jerry Hawker of Cedarburg, Wis.
