ROCHESTER; Raymond Beaudoin, prominent local businessman, died Jan. 2, 2009, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, after a three-month illness.

He was born in 1925 in Maynard, Mass., to Raymond and Hazel Beaudoin, and moved to Rochester in 1927.

After graduating from Spaulding High School in 1943, Raymond served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

Having been a star high school athlete, after the war he continued his baseball career playing with the Red Sox Farm League in Ocala, Fla., culminating with a try out at Fenway Park for the Red Sox. An ankle injury ended his professional career.

He returned to Rochester and married Grace Johnson with whom he had five children. He worked in the family oil business along with his brothers, accumulating numerous properties in Rochester and continued to manage both his real estate investments and the oil business.

In 1973, he met Dorothea Pento, and together they traveled extensively, wintered in Florida, and enjoyed ballroom dancing and exploring the United States.

Raymond was a member of the VFW, the Rochester Historical Society and the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, and was a lifelong member of the Elks. He was a member of the First Church Congregational of Rochester all of his life.

He is survived by his two sons, Raymond III and his wife, Judith, of Rochester, and Steven and his wife, Sherry, of Rochester; three daughters, Linda Woodward of Boscawen, Pamela Thompson and her husband, Barry, of Sanbornville, and Terri Melville of Rochester; and his grandchildren, Sarah Beaudoin of Portsmouth, Andrew Beaudoin and his wife, Priscilla, of Dover, Eric Beaudoin of Rochester, Seth Woodward and his wife, Angela, of Franklin, Alison Ladman and her husband, Brent, of Concord, Steven Woodward of Boscawen, Justine Woodward of Boscawen, Matthew Thompson of Rochester, Leah Chucwu and her husband, Henry, of Manchester, Mark Thompson of Sanbornville, Danielle Kirouac and her husband, Craig Hoover, of Sanbornville, and Isaac Melville of Rochester. He also leaves five great-grandchildren, Noah and Daniel Beaudoin of Dover, Anthony Chucwu of Manchester, and Rosemary and Jasmine Hoover of Sanbornville; his brother, Norman Beaudoin of Rochester; his sister Paula Doisneau of Manomet, Mass., and Naples, Fla.; sister, Marlene Blair and her husband, Robert, of Wells, Maine; sister, Janet Hescock and her husband, Bruce, of Bethany, Conn.; his sister, Norma Wotton and her husband, Rodney, of York Beach, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his companion of 35 years, Dorothea Pento, and is survived by her daughter, Robin Pento, and granddaughter, Mia Pento. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert Beaudoin, and sister, Brenda Dumont.

Raymond was a much-loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, and will be dearly missed by his family.

The family would also like to thank the wonderful people at the Wentworth-Douglass Critical Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Church Congregational Memorial Fund in his name.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the R. M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester, NH 03867.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the First Church Congregational, 63 S. Main St., Rochester, NH 03867, with the Rev. Mark Hamilton, officiating.
