Karl served as a Technician Fifth Grade, 117th Ordnance Battalion, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Ebenezer, Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on May 16, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted as being employed as a mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.

Karl was declared "Missing In Action" in France during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart.
