TUCSON, ARIZONA -- Earl Ray Gunn passed away peacefully Friday morning, Aug. 3, 2001 of cancer.

He was born April 20, 1947 in Alice, Texas, a son of Lester Gunn and Janice Timms Gunn. He married Jeannie Berkenbine of Idaho. To them was born one son, Aaron Todd Gunn. They were divorced.

Earl moved to Salt Lake and married Sarah Lee Nielson. To them were born, Erica Rose Gunn (now 17 years) and Jacob Lester Gunn (now 15 years).

Earl was one of the kindest most personable people you could ever meet. He was a wonderful friend and loved to help every body that he could. He honored and loved his country.

He graduated from High School with Honors in Richmond, CA., where he and his buddy, Roger Hall joined the U.S. Army. They had their basic training at Fort Ord, California and both were sent to the War Zone in Viet Nam. Earl served two hitches there. He had an Honorary Discharge, also the Army Accommodation Medal O/C. His group was the 17th Engineer Brigade-418th Engineer Battalion (from 1966 to 1969). He attended three universities.

He worked for two years for Wheeler Machinery Co. In Salt Lake City until they shut down, then joined the U.S. Army Active Reserves, until his death- with 16 years service.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah N. Gunn; four children, Aaron Todd Gunn, Christopher Gunn, Erica Rose Gunn, Jacob Lester Gunn of Tucson, Arizona; brother, Douglas Lester Gunn; sister, Ruth Ann Gunn; half-brothers, Lester Edward Gunn and Steven James Manning; two grandsons, Travis Gunn and Casey Gunn. Also surviving are his parents, Janice Timms Gunn and Lester Gunn. He has many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Military graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. August 11, 2001 in Centerville City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North 400 East, Bountiful, Utah.
