During his active life, Mr. Sly was a farmer, miner, blacksmith, cowboy, fisherman and hunter. He had served on Nucla's City Council for eight years, and was a secretary-treasurer of a San Miguel County sportsman's organization for many years.
Born at Juniata, Neb., July 14, 1881, he came to Cripple Creek with his family in 1895. He married Gertrude Tschop at Cortez on July 1, 1905.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Chester, of Denver; seven daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Wares of Liberal, Kan., Mrs. Ed Joseph of Norwood; Mrs. Fred Becker of Montrose, Mrs. Steven Swain of Paradox; Mrs. S.A. Schoults of Casper, Wyo., Mrs. Cloyce Stokes of Alamosa and Mrs. James Johnson of Nucla; a brother and two sisters, one of whom is Mrs. Leafy Winkfield of Telluride; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
