Son of Parden & Mary (Meeker) Sprague. Union military officer, aand explorer of much of southern Oregon. Spent many years in Jackson County, Oregon, before returning to Delaware in later life. Leader of the first party to scale Crater Lake's 800 foot wall and reach the shore. Namesake of the Sprague River in Oregon.

Capt. Franklin Sprague served in Company I, 1st Oregon Volunteer Infantry. Union veterans in Klamath Falls, Oregon named their GAR post in his honor.
