Surgeon in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States of America. I have the honor to be General, Your most obedient Humble Servant, P. W. Anderson, P. A. C. S., Asst Surgeon 23rd Regt Va Cavly" [Docketing on the back of this letter reads, "Medl Directors Office, Jany 27th 1865, Respectfully forwarded. Approved if no charges are against this officer and recommend that he be immediately subjected to the requirements of General Orders No. 24, A&IG Office, Richmond, March 5, 1863." Note: This General Order essentially states that an officer whose resignation is accepted is still liable to conscription. Further docketing reads, "Surg Genls Office, Feb 9, '65, Res. referred to the A. & I. G. for acceptance. S.P. Moore, Surg Genl, CSA"]
