MILLERSBURG -- Alice W. (Woodruff) Stallman, 86, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Sycamore Run Care Center.
She was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Millersburg to Andrew and Artie (Lautenschlager) Woodruff, and was a 1940 graduate of Millersburg High School.
Alice was a telephone operator during World War II and then later for United Telephone. She also worked for Adams Bank and at Pomerene Hospital, where she spent many hours rocking new babies in the nursery. She also volunteered at the Holmes County Historical Society and served as a hostess at the Victorian House.
Surviving are daughters, Cynthia (George) Mullet of Sterling and Brenda Stallman of Millersburg; grandchildren, Andy (Kellie) Mullet and Gavon Mullet of Burbank, Gwen Covert of Wooster; great-grandchildren, Christian, Natalie and Sadie Covert, Peyton, Hunter, Gunnar and Avery Mullet; and Milo her special canine companion.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rollin Stallman in 1988, whom she married Oct. 1, 1943; and siblings, Harold and Olus Woodruff, Mary Worley, Mable Temple and Elizabeth Young.
Services will be Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at Millersburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas L. Jones officiating. Private interment will follow.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling arrangements.
