Charles "Charlie" Eugene Myers, age 85 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marengo, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 5, 2012, First Presbyterian Church, Marengo with Rev. Gerald Rife officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will be in the Marengo Cemetery, next to his first wife, parents and sisters. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday, May 4, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, St. James Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids or Iowa Hospice, Cedar Rapids.

Charlie is survived by his wife Eva; his five children, Charles "Chuck" H. Myers (Carla) of Hartford, IA, Anthony "Tony" M.J. Myers (Nancy) of Green Bay, WI, Michele "Mickie" F. Johnson (Jerry) of Houston, TX, Andrea D. Young (Doug) of Mead, CO, and Matthew E. Myers (Kelly) of Spokane, WA; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, as well as mother-in-law Edna Allman, sister-in-law Carolyn Cooper (Lee), brother-in-law Ed Allman (Doris), three step-children, Teri Svoboda (Dave), Stephanie French (Matt), and Wendy Schmitz (Roger); six step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Charlie was born November 7, 1926 in the Myers' family home three miles south of Marengo. He was the only son of Howard Levi Myers and Helen Minnie Hunzelman Myers. His two older sisters, Ethel "Beth" E. Adreon and Arlene H. Feiereisen, passed before him.

Charlie graduated from Carson High School in Marengo and attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a staff sergeant crew chief on P-51 fighter aircraft at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. Besides being a farmer, he had his own business as an electrical contractor. He was an avid bowler, and was the first person to bowl a 700 series in official league play at Lucky Six Lanes in Marengo. He also enjoyed watching and feeding birds, roller skating, Bible study, card-playing and watching sports on television. Charlie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Marengo American Legion Post 76, El Kahir Shrine, and the P-3 Retirees of Cedar Rapids.

He met his first wife and mother of his children, Evelyn Faye Turner Myers in Las Vegas when she was playing baseball with friends. They were married September 1, 1950 in Las Vegas. In 1996 Evelyn passed away at the Myers' home. Charlie met his second wife, Eva Mae Allman Myers, through his daughter and they married on April 29, 2000 in Cedar Rapids. They resided on the farm for nine years until they moved to their present home in Cedar Rapids.
