Funeral of Mrs. John Coon Held Here Today

Mrs. John Coon died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Arvel Belew in Overland, Tuesday, July 13th. Mr, and Mrs. Coon have made their home in and near Salem for many years. Mary Kathrine,the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel White, She was born in Kansas on June 19, 1871. She married Nelson Sprauge on December 19, 1889, and they were parents of seven children, six of whom survive. One daughter Nina Chatherine, died in infancy. The children living are Mrs Belew of Overland,( Missouri, St. Louis County ) Clifford Sparuge of Los Angeles,California, Chester and Nelson of Portland, Oregon and Mrs Frank Workman and Miss.Kathleen of St.Louis. Mr. Sparuge died on June 13, 1917.
She was married to John Coon on June 21, 1919. Mr, Coon and two step-children, Clara Smith and Kenneth Coon, also survive; togeather with a sister, Mrs Maude Hinch and brother, Fred White od St. Louis, and fourteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Mrs Coon was known among her friends and acquaintances in Salem by her nickname "Kate". She had a pleasnat personality and readly made friends. As a member of the Salem Baptist Church Mrs Coon was interestedin the work of the church.
Funeral services are being held the ( Thursday ) afternoon from the Spencer Chapel. Rev. L. M. White will conduct the services, and interment will be in the cedar Grave cemetary.
