Harvey E. Bricker, 90, affectionately known as the "Candy Man", and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010, in the Colonial Park Care Center, Lower Paxton Township.
Born in Dauphin County on December 24, 1919, he was the son of the late John H., Sr. and Viola Nye Bricker.
Harvey retired as the Night Supervisor for the former Conrail. He was an Army Engineer veteran having served in World War II. Harvey was not only a devoted father and grandfather, but a faithful and caring friend. He enjoyed working in his yard, visiting with others, helping wherever needed, and handing out candy to the old and young.
Harvey was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mae H. Randolph Bricker, on August 10, 1996.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Myers of Harrisburg; two grandsons, Matthew D. Myers husband of Brenda J. of Harrisburg, and James H. Myers husband of Griselle of Harrisburg; two great grandchildren, Eros Myers and Genesis Myers both of Harrisburg; his devoted friend, Beatrice Deavens of Harrisburg; one sister, Arlene E. Brunner wife of Charles T. of Hummelstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Paul R. Myers; six brothers, John H. Jr., Paul R., Harold L., Russell E. Sr., Marlin S., and Harry A.; and three sisters, Verna Swartz, Mary A. Holbert, and Dorothy R. Potteiger.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Alan R. Echard, pastor of Melrose Gardens Grace Brethren Church, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to a viewing in the funeral home Tuesday from 10 AM until time of the service.
