John (Jack) Alison Fahnestock, Sr., 84, of Boise, died Sunday, September 18, 2011.
He was born August 13, 1927 in Dallas, Texas, the only child of Noel Stuart and Ethel Alison Fahnestock. He grew up in Beverly Hills, California and later graduated in economics from Stanford University.
He served in the Navy in WWII, and then was called back into the Korean War where he received his commission as an ensign.
After living in Washington and California, they moved back to Boise, Idaho in 1969. He worked as a Life Insurance Agent for Mutual of New York (MONY). He retired as the manager of the Boise Intermountain Agency.
His faith and his family were the most important things of his life. He was a convert to the LDS church and went on to serve in many callings. Among the many positions he held were: Seminary Teacher, Bishop, and High Councilman.
He married his wife of 58 years, Beverly Halliday, on July 29, 1953 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. On April 16, 1971 they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple for time and all eternity. A highlight of his life was serving an LDS mission with his wife as a site missionary in Palmyra, New York "The Cradle of the Restoration". He was an avid golfer, pilot, and loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Terri Young (Eagle), John (Jack) Jr. and Nancy (Eagle), Robert and Jacque (Sandy, Utah), Richard and Joyce (Eagle), Dana and Marty Tingey (Idaho Falls, Idaho); 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four cousins.
The family wished to express gratitude to the staff of McMillan Spring Creek Manor and XL Hospice for the loving care and friendship.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the LDS Chapel located on 6032 N. Five Mile Rd. in Boise. Friends may call to visit with the family on Tuesday, September 20th, from 6-8 p.m. at Relyea Funeral Chapel, and from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. at the church on Wednesday prior to the services. Interment will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery.
