Glenn G. Hench

Glenn G. Hench of Loysville, formerly of West Chester Glenn G. Hench, 89, of Loysville and formerly of West Chester, Pa. passed away at his home on Monday, November 15, 2010. Glenn was born December 29, 1920 near Landisburg, Pa. at Bridgeport to the late John E. and Ruth Ickes Hench. He was also preceded in death by a brother Edward of New Holland, Pa. He was a master carpenter by trade having built three homes in which he lived including the log cabin in which he passed away. He was a retired employee of the Sinclair Oil Company (now B P Corporation). He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a cabin on Lake Charleston, Ontario, Canada where he spent many happy summers for almost 30 years, fishing for lake trout and bass. He spent many years working with the Boy Scouts as a member of Troop 43 in West Chester. He was a World War II Navy veteran. For 12 years he went to breakfast every morning at the Blain Hotel where he also spent many evenings during the last five years eating dinner with his good friend Ken Morrow. He enjoyed loafing during the day at T & T Bargain Boys, Loysville. He dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to spending time with all of them. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Loysville. He was a Past Master of West Chester Lodge 322 and Adams Lodge 319 F&AM, New Bloomfield. He was Past Commander of the St. Albans Commandery 47, Springfield, Pa.; member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon-Juniata Valley Forest 88; High Priest of Howell Royal Arch Chapter 202, West Chester; Gunning Bedford Council #1 R.& S., Wilmington, Delaware; Blain Fire Company and Blain Ambulance Association. On October 4, 1941, he married Ethel (Clark) Hench and shared 57 years of marriage until her passing on December 10, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara and her husband Frank Schweibenz of Exton, Pa. and Dolores and her husband Bruce Lindeman of West Chester, Pa.; a son, James and his wife Louisa Hench of St. George, Utah; five siblings, Eugene Hench, New Bloomfield, Pa.; Dale Hench, Quarryville, Pa.; Elizabeth Hench, Elizabethtown, Pa.; Helen Crofts, Dover, Delaware and Sarah Fry, Carlisle, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and many other relatives. A funeral service will be held at Noon, November 20, 2010 in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 5593 Shermans Valley Road, Loysville, Pa. 17047 (the church is located on Rt. 274 between Loysville and Blain) with the Rev. Robert Yankovitz officiating. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Saturday in the church where a masonic service by Adams Lodge 319 F&AM will be held at 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow the service in the Bloomfield Cemetery, New Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Angels on Call, 32 Red Hill Court, Newport, Pa. 17074 or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, P. O. BOX 55, Loysville, Pa. 17047. Arrangements are being handled by the Nickel Funeral Home, 3626 Shermans Valley Road, P. O. BOX 910, Loysville, Pa. 17047.
