Horace Reaves has passed and gone home to be with the Lord. He lived a long hearty life of 89 years. Spry as ever up until the last couple of years. Horace loved fishing and tinkering on anything with a motor. He was a great joker, fiddle player, and general lover of life. Always laughing and carrying on with you. He will be greatly missed by all. Horace was happily married to his devoted wife of 54 wonderful years, Ms. Polly Reaves. They enjoyed much in life together and were a perfect compliment to each other from their first date at Dairy Queen all those years ago. Her love and guidance helped him make it a beautiful life. Along with his wife, Horace leaves behind his loyal son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Helen Hollingsworth. They were by his side through thick and thin. His son, Wayne Reaves preceded him in death and is waiting on him in heaven. Grandson, J.J. Hollingsworth shared his love for fishing. His granddaughter and her husband, Kimber and Tim Strickland, and great-granddaughter, Annie, who loved to steal his chair, will hear bluegrass music and think of him. He is also survived by his two sisters, Lois Malpass and Beatrice Shrewsburg, and brother, Jim Reaves, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friend, Lewis Croom. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel with Rev. Paul F. Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 10:00 a.m. Monday until the service hour. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the angels at Lower Cape Fear Hospice or Wilmington First Pentecostal Holiness Church in memory of Horace Reaves.
